Hey Martin - thanks for the shout out, unexpected to say the least. Being centrist left vs your centrist right puts us pretty close on the spectrum...and we need a bigger "middle" here.

I think you're on-point that we need to call out hypocrisy when we see it, no matter where it lies. Listening to understand is a great skill that anyone should develop. Not "listen to hear" or "listen to agree", but hearing and considering valid points of view. I'll say not only important in public debate, but a strong skill working in a business or a project to solve hard problems. Unfortunately, our extreme ends seem not to listen nor consider. I think because it's seen as a sign of weakness. You do a good job of calling this out across the board. In these scenarios, what do we say or do, in your experience, that would move the needle back towards a respectful conversation, listening to understand, and finding those places we can agree on to move forward? Maybe another topic for a Howlin' episode?

Oh...and sorry about the Reds.

The reason that Trump is very likely to be the first guy since Grover Cleveland to win a second non-contiguous term is precisely because, as you touch on, much of the left, academia, the media, and the federal bureaucracy has written off "MAGA" as low-information bigots without actually listening to them. It's an interesting experience to hang out with Trump supporters for a while.
